Feasibility of characterizing subsurface brines on Ceres by electromagnetic sounding

The ice-rich dwarf planet Ceres is the largest object in main asteroid belt and thought to have a brine or mud layer at depth of tens kilometers. Furthermore, recent surface deposits brine-sourced material imply shallow feeder structures such as sills dikes. Inductive sounding can be performed using solar wind source, was done for Moon during Apollo. However, magnetotelluric method -- measuring both electric magnetic fields not sensitive plasma effects that were experienced Apollo, which used an orbit-to-surface transfer function. highly conductive targets are readily separable from resistive ice rock interior, deep brines assessed simultaneously. instrumentation will tested on 2023 ready implementation landed mission.
